The best of the DIRECTV primetime lineup

Today’s Number One Film:

Picture courtesy Molly Reviews StuffLooper, 7.03pm HBO Plus BEST FILM OF THE DAY. Watch this if you liked The Matrix, Blade Runner or Surrogates. As film noirish as sci-fi gets, Looper is a credible (or as credible as time travel gets) action flick that is far better than its starting points would suggest, particularly when those starting points include time travel, old and young versions of the same person existing at the same time, and Bruce Willis. Kind of like Back to the Future for the action crowd, Looper is a lot of fun and, if it doesn’t quite reach credibility, it certainly stands up to suspension of disbelief. Not life-changing, perhaps, but you won’t change the channel, either. Directed by Rian Johnson/ 2012/ USA/ Action-Crime-Sci-fi-Thriller/ 119 mins/ Rated R for strong violence, language, some sexuality/nudity and drug content.
